Birddog’s The Duke

~Riparian Ghostrider QA2 X  Birddog’s Riparian Remington MH

Duke is now available for stud services to approved females.

Located Bemidji, MN

Duke is an absolutely gorgeous 85 pound fox red male! He is the sweetest boy and is as loyal as they come. Duke lives with my parents and literally goes everywhere with my dad. Duke will do absolutely anything for my dad. He retrieves multiple times a day and is his hunting dog in the fall. Duke has the ultimate type of temperament and gets along with everyone. He is very affectionate and goes out of his way to please.

Duke was the singleton puppy from the last Remi MH x Nick QA2 litter. It absolutely broke my heart to do it, but due to some unexpected circumstances I had to sell Duke as a puppy. Thankfully it is in my contract that I am to be given the first opportunity to buy-back any puppy that has been placed. Just after Duke turned a year old, his owner contacted me and informed me of how their life circumstances had changed and that they needed to move their dogs. Needless to say I jumped at the opportunity to get him back. My dad and I did a turn and burn trip down to Tennessee to get him. Once we got Duke back home, it was clear nothing had been done with him training wise and he was living in a cramped crate/kennel situation. Not in the house as it had been agreed upon. I knew Duke would never be sold again and I wanted to give him an opportunity to run hunt tests. So Duke went to our trainer in Texas. Once he was there it was pretty clear Duke did not do well in a large kennel environment. He just got so overwhelmed and sort of shut down. He enjoyed learning obedience with one-on-one training, but just didn’t really care about birds at that time. He simply wasn’t ready. So my dad and I went down to get him and my dad mentioned that he would like to bring Duke to his home. The immediate bond between my dad and Duke was undeniable. They just chose each other and it was obvious to everyone that saw them. So Duke went to live with my parents. Once he was given the opportunity to be a loved family member in the house and allowed to just be a dog for a while, he blossomed. He is exactly what my retired parents wanted and he is adored in every way.

Duke has a service work/ therapy work type of temperament. He is extremely sweet and gentle with everyone he meets. He has a fantastic on/off switch and knows when it is time to be calm and when it is time to play or work. Duke also has a silly personality and makes everyone laugh multiple times a day!. Duke is extremely loyal and will do absolutely anything to please the main people in his life. He enjoys meeting new people and going to new places. He loves to retrieve and thoroughly enjoyed his first hunting season with my dad. Even with how much Duke loves retrieving and hunting now, he will not be sent back down for hunt test training. He is simply cherished as a family member now and his absence would be too much! He is a permanent addition to the BDL family! We are excited to see what he produces in the future with our own girls and we will offer him to approved females as well.
